One gang is one position on the plate. A 1 gang plate holds a single piece, a 3 gang plate holds three side by side. Count the positions on the wall you are replacing and order that size.

A 4-way switch controls one light from three or more locations. It sits between two 3-way switches on the same circuit; our Brass Toggle Switch is that 3-way switch. Two Toggles plus one 4-Way covers three locations. If your light is switched from one or two places only, choose the Toggle Switch instead.
