Thread count is one of the most mis-leading, over-marketed terms in the bedding industry. Typically 1000TC+ sheets are actually much hotter and less breathable, because of the density of the cotton packed into each square inch. Overall, thread count does matter, but far less than the quality of the cotton fibres and the type of weave used.

For those who don't yet know the difference, duvet covers are basically a "pillowcase" to the duvet, which is the "pillow".

A duvet cover is far easier to clean, since you can actually fit a duvet cover into the washing machine. Comforters often have to be taken to the dry cleaners.

Natural materials only! Stick to 100% cotton, linen or silk. As soon as you add polyester, sheets tend to become less and less breathable, leaving you with sweaty nights. We spend so much of our time sleeping, that getting the right product once is worth it.
